War Memorial
Today was a bit of a weird one. Uncontrollable excitement culminating in bewilderment. Nice Mister Postie brought my new 5D body to the door. The delivery window extended to Thursday, so I had convinced myself not to expect it until tomorrow. But I had it in my hands before noon.
A new camera required lenses, so I hoisted myself into the loft where my collection of goodies is stored. While sniffing around the clear boxes of gear, I re-discovered all manner of kit I had forgotten about. I had a Canon Powershot G5 and a cranky Toshiba PDR-M65 3.3Mb which I thought I would take a run out with.
Besides lenses, I needed a CF card and card reader, and I needed to get out to try the new cam. The sooner the better. Hence where I went wandering was dictated by the proximity of the shop, and since that shop was PC World near Baginton Airport, the wander would be Brandon way. It's at this moment the day takes a dive. Once out in the countryside I pulled up at pretty much the first pull in I found. Heart ruling the head you see. Over the stile and off I went. Where I went was a grassy hill with a few sheep in it shading under a tree. Next field was a grassy hill but without any sheep in it. Not even a tree. Field after that had peas growing in it. The peas were marginally interesting, but if I told the truth, pics were plain blah. Beyond that was the flamin' Fosse Way! I returned to the car somewhat disappointed. I had nothing I could shout about.
Tomorrow Hannah has her graduation ceremony at Bristol and Joe is going there with her. He wanted a camera to take with him. One of the endearing qualities of youngsters is a yearning for the alternative. He wanted a film camera and, he said, Hannah had asked if I could supply a roll of film for her too. No problem I said. I fixed Joe up with an Olympus XA2, easy peasy cam to operate, lay under bed to see if it had film in it - it did, and then went to get a few rolls of film. Couldn't believe I only had 120. About 8 boxes each with 5 rolls in. All marked best before 2005. Joe said he could get film from Poundland.
Over at Hannah's, she produced a sleeping bag for Cath we asked her to get. I gave her the money which she took while refusing, saying it was a late birthday prezzie for Cath. I shudder as I recall letting her give me twenty quid back. I feel awful. I will be insisting on returning the money next time I see her. I really must insist.
Returning home, I drove past the Memorial Park. Prince William had been at the park that very day. So I pulled up and took a wander. It was raining that kind of welcome, fresh rain that warmly washes sticky bodies, and there was a full rainbow to accompany. I headed off in the direction of the memorial, thinking the prince had visited Coventry concerning some 1914-2014 event or other. I took the G5 and the phone. Photos with the G5 have rain splatter on the filter. The phone was loads better.
Which is where the bewilderment comes in. Today I had used a full frame sensor DSLR, the G5 and a phone, and the best looking pic I took was with the bloody phone!
Made up for things with a cozy down the Vs. I drove.
