5 Star fish bar

I have driven up to Anstruther and Pittenweem, two fishing villages on the Fife coast.

We used to come here as a family when I was a child and my dad and I would get up before dawn and watch the fish being landed, then auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The Anstruther Fish Shop has an international reputation and I can see why. It works like a well oiled machine. You queue from the bottom, then upstairs for takeaway, down to two mezzanine levels of seated chippery. Scrupulously clean tables, waited on by women of all ages in bright white pinnies.

The fish was great too.
