Expecting to Fly...

A great morning at Eshaness - this corner of Shetland, from Hillswick to the soaring cliffs at Eshaness has some of the most stunning coastal scenery anywhere - at some point in time I will add a few pictures accordingly to our Shetland Set on Flickr.

As is usual, I spent a large part of the time watching the gannets.

After gannets hit the water (frequently missing their target) they sit for a while before they take flight again - this seems to take a lot of effort and in these moments they can be vulnerable to attacks by bonxies (great skuas). It's not very elegant, but they do not lack for self-belief ...
