Cat's Back

Apparently when a dog yawns, it is not because he is tired but because he is trying to defuse a situation. It is a message that he feels threatened and wishes to show that he is not going to retaliate.

So why did I catch Poppy yawning this afternoon whilst we were having a lovely relaxed walk along the Cats Back? There were no other dogs about, we met just one group of fellow walkers, it was a really good afternoon. I cannot think she was stressed, I certainly wasn't, hot yes, but stressed no! I had been the one carrying the heavy bottles of water, which they had just slopped everywhere, so they weren't even thirsty.

Tired she might have been, but that, according to the books, is the wrong interpretation!
