Space Train
One of the great things about living in/around Portland is the public transit. We have an extensive bus system, and a light rail which covers much of the metro area (with lines that run to the extreme East & West suburbs, through North Portland and to the airport).
The latest line opened in September - it runs from downtown to Clackamas, which is East of the Willamette River - and in conjunction Trimet unveiled their new model of train car. My stepdaughter immediately dubbed it the "space train" upon first viewing, due to its sleek futuristic style (in comparison to the boxy style of the existing cars). My son had been itching to ride on one since their inception, so Saturday afternoon we finally made it happen. We spend a delightful afternoon riding the rails, hopping trains left and right until we finally found one (the older cars are still in heavy rotation, so you have to get lucky with your timing).
He got his wish, and I got to reminisce about his younger years when we used to ride the train daily (his preschool was right on the train line).
