hands
Hands. This is a detail from a charcoal a friend did way back when. Hands, they say, are the hardest thing to get right, but boy did he get them right.
Hands can be the most delicate, tender thing of touch. My Gran had these silken papered hands that belied her hard graft in the garden. Generous hands. Gifted hands. Gentle hands.
My children's great-granny (Pearl Achchi) had such soft hands that each time she touched you, and her eyes glowed in your direction, you felt blessed and caressed by some higher force. Like a smooth cool pillow on a hot restless night her hands soothed, and her life of tribulations forgave every daft, awful thing. You wanted her hand to stay right there on your cheek. A blessing of forgiveness.
I miss both these people.
