Declination

The fact that you see very small shadows underneath our A/B's on deck, has everything to do with your latitude, the season and thus the declination. Declination is basically the angle between the sun and the celestial equator. We are on southern latitudes, so if a southern declination equals your southern latitude, the sun zeniths 90 degrees above you. The fact that we are on 22 degrees southern latitude and the declinaton just passes the maximum of 23 degrees south, also explains that it is the middel of summerseason here. And therefore also explains why our A/B's are using protection against the sun; because it is steaming hot on deck!
