Rebuilding

One More Day

The sun has set on another busy day. It was a working lunch today (bring your own sandwiches), as we had a team meeting with our boss to catch up on all the latest developments and flag up any issues we might have with the day-to-day running of our team. This week, we began a 10-week migration to a new version of our huge audio database and it's increased our workload already, with several of our producer colleagues in need of help with technical difficulties. I think we're in for a long and trying summer.

Last month we were told that 15% of jobs in Radio, where I work, are to be axed as part of ongoing cutbacks. Today saw the announcement that 415 jobs in News are to go. I already see staff around the building looking like the walking dead from shouldering the workload of two or more people, so I dread to think what it's going to be like in a few months' time. If the cuts continue to be made at this rate year on year, I don't think there will be much of a BBC left in 15 years' time.

On a brighter note, in the short term, I've got just one more day to go before a very welcome week off. Let's hope the storms predicted for the weekend clear the decks for some more sunshine next week!
