Espresso
Amongst the Hot Cocoa roses, we’ve planted ‘Espresso’ gladiolas. These are among the darkest of the burgundy red glads. Here, the slanted western sun rays highlight the gorgeous, rich color. Without the sun caressing them, they are nearly black against the roses and windbreak. Very dramatic in a vase in the house, as well.
These have survived in the garden for a full seven years and seem to be increasing. Not what I expected with gladiolas at our latitude and with our winter temps. Not complaining, mind you.
