Robert Capa
One of my favorite classes at Wesleyan was, "Ethics and Aesthetics of the Spanish Civil War". I became fascinated by the heartrending conflict and continued to read about it long after the class had ended. While the war took place almost 80 years ago it's impact is still apparent today. At the first pilgrims mass I attended in Roncesvalles, the priest thanked those before him who had defended the monastery during the war. They had taken great personal risks to preserve the remarkable monastery where we were staying. Today, I went to visit the Museo Reina Sofia to see Pablo picasso's famous Guernica. While there, I saw many of the photographs taken by Robert Capa. I was delighted. This picture has always been a favorite of mine and I have a book of his work hidden somewhere.
