Grace me guide
This is Grace, yet another modern English Rose, bearing up after last night’s thunderstorms.
I have a bit of a dilemma over today’s blip. Tonight we are going to …well I’m not quite sure what. It’s described as Fous de Bassin (Water Fools) - a show on water by a French company called Ilotopie. The Chicago Reader described it as ‘Cirque du Soleil Goes to Sea’. The tickets say; this event takes place outdoors, on water and uses naked flames and pyrotechnics.
It doesn’t start until 10.00pm. Not only is it past my bedtime, it’s a bit late to be blipping once I get home. Assuming I’ve taken some photos whilst there. And that’s the dilemma; do I take a camera or not? And if I do take a camera - which one? My usual go-to camera of choice - the Olympus EM-5 or my compact?
I don’t want to be faffing around changing lenses in the dark, surrounded by masses of people. On the other hand I’m not very good with compacts - (I haven’t read the manual, if I’m honest). And - and this is the biggie - if I spend too much time faffing around with cameras, I’m going to miss the show.
I now understand that this state of affairs - indecisiveness and the need to put the camera first rather than the activity or event, is a consequence of Blip-itis.
Grace then is a placeholder; and a very fragrant one at that. If she’s still here tomorrow, then either I didn't take my camera, or I did and the shots were rubbish. Who's the fous de bassin nowl?
Through my mother, I have Scottish roots; the clan motto is Grace me guide. So I will.
Update. 11.25pm.
I took my compact camera and managed one shot here. Halfway through we had a thunderstorm but people stayed till the end. The rain was warm enough.
It was amazing - well worth seeing if you get the chance.
