Every One A Life

A long day for me (Annie). With an impending holiday, I sent my last work email at just after midnight. Anything else that's left to do will just have to wait. I was wakened in the night by some amazing lightning storms and a very nervous cat who needed some active reassurance. When the alarm finally went off I hadn't felt like I'd slept much at all.

Once up, I set off on my summer holiday adventure, driving to the channel tunnel and across to France. It was beautiful sunny weather as I drove across France, Belgium and the Netherlands. I just love the fact you can get to Calais and turn left, and be crossing borders within the hour.

This area of the world has names that you can't help but recognise, such as Dunkirk, Flanders and Ypres. With the centenary of World War I on us, I felt it appropriate to make stop at a cemetery on my way in to the Netherlands. Such beautiful places, so peaceful and so poignant. Every one of these crosses represents a life, some crosses named and some unknown.

I'm saddened every day when I see the power humans have to create carnage through war. Will we ever learn peace? My thoughts today were with the families of MH17.

Chris and the girls join me on Sunday - can't wait! Until then, the road trip continues...
