Skiathos Day 11 - Arrivals and Departures

Skiathos is well known for having a very short runway and at the end of the runway people will wait as the planes arrive just a few feet above your head as they approach and land before slamming brakes on to come to a halt.

Hayley and Chris were heading home today so we went to the airport with Nicola and Jan to see them off and spend a couple of hours plane watching.

As they come toward you they really do look like they're going to have to make you duck, and the noise is incredible.

After they had left we had lunch and got the bus back to base.

Evening meal was at a Taverna called Plakes in the town. It was a bit of a mission to find it amongst alleys and steps but eventually we got there and it was worth it - built into the side of a cliff overlooking the sea, with gorgeous food too. Enough days left in the holiday to go back!

I appreciate the sensitivity of a plane blip at this time - such a tragedy and I hope this photo isn't inconsiderate.
