Robert Smail's Printing Works

The works were opened in 1866 and continued in operation until 1986 when the great grandson of the original Smail retired. Nothing was ever thrown away and the guardbooks for the whole existence of the business still survive with a copy of every single job printed there. The National Trust maintains it as a printo works, still using manual type setting and the original presses from the business. A fascinating way to spend a rain sodden day. Now, the pub is calling.
