Bonding
My Dad is a 'blokey' sort of person. He grew up in a small country town on his father's farm, then got married and moved into his Grandfathers house across the paddock from his Mum and Dad. He still lives there now and that's where I grew up and love going back to now.
Being a 'blokey' person, Dad isn't one for mushy stuff or talking about how you feel and when Spence was first born, I think Dad was a bit scared of such a little baby with his big fumbly hands! It wasn't until Spencer was about 6 months old that Dad would voluntarily pick him up. As Spence grew more mobile and able to talk, Dad has loved it more and more. He takes Spence out to feed the chooks or get the eggs, or feed the cows, or other 'blokey' stuff!
This morning Mum had gone to work and Dad had the day off. It was a beautiful still morning and Dad wanted to go fishing. He had asked a couple of his mates but they were busy. I said to him that I would love to go but I had no-one to look after Spence. Dad replied 'I can't wait til he gets older so I can take him out fishing'. It was such a beautiful moment where Dad had expressed in that little sentence how much he loves having Spence around and wants to teach him stuff! it made my heart melt!
I asked Dad if he was alright to look after Spence for 10 minutes while I had a shower. Dad said 'no worries, we'll go for a walk'. So off they went and I had a shower. When I got out I looked out the window across the paddock and saw Dad walking down the lane with this little head bobbing behind him. It was all I could see of Spence above the grass. I quickly got my camera and waited near the house and took today's blip as Dad and Spence were coming back from their walk.
I loved the symmetry of the two of them, they seem to be in sync.
