Last ride on a manually-operated elevator

Linda and I went to London, Ontario today to visit a friend and a few old haunts. One such haunt was Kingsmill's Department Store. At 148 years old, this summer is its last. It's one of the last family-run independent department stores left in Canada. Besides great staff and goods, it has one of the last - if not the last - working pneumatic tube transport (PTT) systems (for cheques, cash, etc) and the last manually-operated department store elevators in North America. Shown here is the operator panel of one of those old Otis elevators. Tomorrow, I'll post the PTT system station box.
