Three tandems on tour
We had quite a surprise at Leverburgh this morning when we found two other couples with tandems - both of which were Dawes like ours - waiting for the ferry to Berneray. Here they all are, neatly stowed for the crossing.
We decided to spend the day on Berneray because we had heard that the Leverburgh lifeboat and the Stornoway coast guard helicopter would be on public display as part of the Berneray Week celebrations.
Once on Berneray we headed straight for the harbour. Here we had a great time chatting with crew on the lifeboat. Later on we watched the helicopter fly in from the north to demonstrate lowering a crewman to the lifeboat deck, then picking him up again. We also took part in a raffle to raise funds for the RNLI and won a box of chocolates :-)
Our crossing back to Harris was lots of fun, largely because we ended up sitting amongst the lively Westside FC squad after their 3-1 win against Barra in the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup semi-final.
When we came off the boat we went straight to the Anchorage for a great meal to end another fabulous day on holiday in the Outer Hebrides.
Exercise today: around 20 miles of cycling.
