3 sisters planting

Today has been spent in the garden. Al has been doing lots of sawing, digging, drilling, hammering and general manual labour to build a stone path from reclaimed sandstone from our building work 5 yrs ago and to build some terraced beds for veggies along the sloping edge using the logs from lots of leyandii that we have felled. It's starting to look more like a real garden may happen now , which is very exciting!

I'm also very chuffed with my first attempt at using the '3 sisters' planting technique on my new veg bed. It's sweetcorn planted as supports for green beans and squash used to provide ground cover. I added a couple of extra siblings to the bed - purple sprouting brocolli in the corners and a wee row of beetroot along one side. It is all growing very well and looking very lovely! So far the slugs and snails have hardly touched it - long may that last!
