Maggies Centre - Churchill Hospital, Oxford

I visited this lovely place today which has only recently opened it's doors, previously it was in a Portacabin, the building is called The Treehouse and they are still working on the finishing touches and landscaping. It has a lovely feel about it with lots of use of wood and glass.

The where the staff were friendly and helpful and I also chatted with a lady who was half way through her 30 courses of Radiotherapy after having chemotherapy. I will be coming to the Churchill for Radiotherapy later in the year and Maggies is just opposite the Radiotherapy suite. They run a variety of courses to help people along their Cancer journey and beyond, whilst I am not a one for courses I think it might just be helpful once treatment is over and I need to try and get back to some sort of normal, it won't be normal but it will be a new normal.

Here's a little bit of history behind Maggies:-
Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends, following the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks.

Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need.

Our Centres are places to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support; places to meet other people; places where you can simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.

The first Maggie’s Centre opened in Edinburgh in 1996 and since then Maggie’s has continued to grow, with 17 Centres at major NHS cancer hospitals in the UK, online and abroad.

I also visited Matthew today who was working in Chesham installing bell to a clock tower, the work needs to be completed before August 4th as there is a A Commemorative Festival marking the start of World War 1......there have been numerous problems with the project and today turned out to have even more problems!
