Birth Day

*Birth story*- So I woke up at 4am for a wee and whilst sitting on the toilet I had a bit of an uncomfortable tummy cramp, as if I'd eaten something funny and was about to get the runs! Haha, niiice! And it went and I got back into bed and about 5 mins later it happened again which got me thinking it could be labour starting but I wasn't convinced! I lay in bed until I'd had a few more and they felt a little stronger, so I got up still trying to convince myself it was just poo cramps! I walked around a bit upstairs and had several wee's then thought I best tell the husband I was ringing Mum and the midwife which was about 5am. But at this point I was still debating whether to call or not in case it wasn't labour. Mum got here about 5:30 and the midwife arrived at about 6 I think, I can't remember. After the midwife examined me and did everything she had to do I was 4-5cm but she could stretch to about 6cm and Mum started setting the pool up because I must be in labour now, right!? I just crawled around and sat in the lounge leaning on the sofas through contractions until about 8am-ish and then went and sat on the toilet because it was comfortable!(?)We'd emptied the hot water tank filling the pool and it was only about a third full but I got in and it was so nice. It gradually got filled whilst I was in there. Now this is the funny bit I still just can't believe- by 10:22 I was getting a bit bored with the contractions feeling like they weren't doing a great deal and Mum had just been upstairs to tell the husband what was happening and that they thought she'd be another couple of hours and it'll be the afternoon by the time she's here, then I said "oh come on, you can come out now" and with that I had the most intense contraction and just did not know what to do with myself, I was screaming whilst trying to whip my knickers off saying I'm either pooing or having a baby. The midwife suggested getting me out onto the toilet or just checking me but I just couldn't do a thing! Then another massive contraction and she floated out behind me!! Born at 10:24! So surreal how fast it all happened after me saying I was ready for her! After the first massive contraction I told her she didn't have to listen to me and she could stay in if I was going to have hours of contractions like that! Whole labour was recorded as 6hours 55mins but that was right from very first cramp at 4am, 2 mins pushing stage and 30 mins for the placenta and all as natural as it can get, not even a paracetamol!! I kept thinking about asking for gas and air but because I was at home I was told there's only about 2-3 hours worth, so I wanted to save it for when it was really needed, needless to say, I didn't get it!
I still can't believe how it all happened! The husband wasn't there but he came down with DS literally a few seconds after she was born, mum just didn't have a chance to go and get them but he didn't mind, he'd already said when I was pregnant that he didn't need to be there but I'd told him he had to be, so he got his way! I still got tears from him which is the main thing! :-) he was so scared though bless him because Mum had just been up there saying it'll be a few more hours then he heard screaming and didn't have a clue what was going on and was worried about me. The midwife only started ringing the second midwife as her head appeared then her phone cut out but reconnected so everyone at the birthing unit heard me give birth and that she was a girl! To start with they thought the midwife was someone ringing up and giving birth with no midwife there! It was such an amazing experience doing it at home and would recommend it to anyone who can! I felt amazing after I'd had her!
