Rievaulx Abbey

An impressive ruin, and a lovely walk over the hill from Helmsley. There was an audio guide, and an interpretation centre, but what a whitewashed version of history! These places were seats of powerful men, rivals to kings, not centres for prayers and simple, bucolic lives. Bah!
