Prince Lot Hula Festival, Moanalua Gardens
The gardens were lovely, dappled sunlight under the tree canopies, the stage a raised grassy berm. Food, shaved ice, Leonard's malasadas and handicrafts to browse, folding chairs set up, but vacated to the lawn as the sun beat down, people filling in again as the shade crept across the day. Shuttles took you back to outside parking locations which necessitated waiting in long lines, but talking story filled in the time. Everywhere were smiles, except for the "down in front" calls that could be heard occasionally. The dancers all wore smiles, it being a festival of hula, not a competition.
It was a great, festive, hot, sunny day.
