Holocaust Memorial

Another day of fabulous weather in Berlin. We took the S-Bahn into the city getting off at Potsdamer Platz. This area has been transformed since the coming down of the Berlin Wall. After a light(ish) lunch, we visited the Topography of Terror, a hugely informative exhibition telling the key stories of the SS and the Third Reich. The information is raw and annotated with images and reproduction document. The girls appreciated the chance to really bring to life some of their historical studies over the past couple of years.

We moved on to see the location of Hitlers bunker (now a car park) before reaching the Holocaust Memorial. This site is quite simple but after a few minutes walking around you start to understand what it is trying to show. It represents a supposedly ordered system that has lost touch with a human reason and it's very easy to get disorientated and to feel quite lost in it. Difficult to photograph to convey the sense of it (especially on a busy tourist day) but a little slice here hopefully gives some sense of it.

Ice creams followed before a train ride back to our house and a relaxing evening.
