Work in Progress
Today our share of the 2014 cherry harvest arrived – all 3kg of it.
The first job is to get the pickling done. Last year we preserved a litre in rum, and a half litre in brandy. This is the first year that we have owned a cherry stoner (sometimes referred to as an olive stoner, but we don’t like olives . . . ) so guess whose job it is to stone the cherries and pickle them?
One of the tasks with pickled cherries is to remove excess fluid as the cherries are taken out and eaten. I had been a little remiss lately so I had to decanter a lot of last years rum cherry fluid into the glass . . .
This year we have a litre of cherries pickled in brandy, and half a litre in ‘Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum’. I will report back later in the year with the results – if I can . . .
(ps: the rest of the 3kg has been wasted as deserts etc or even given to daughter!!)
