Farewell
Will's Wise Words for today are from Sonnet 73; do read the whole sonnet here as it's beautiful and thought provoking.
Today, my village of Bierton, said farewell to a great man. Mike Griffin was in his eighties so 'a good innings' one might say. He was born in the village and farmed here for many years. His wife died about 10 years ago and they were a devoted couple. They had no children but regarded the village as their 'family' with numerous good deeds and philanthropic gestures; very supportive of all events and organisations.
With Mike's passing goes one of the 'old school' of stalwarts concerned with community rather than personal gain. His farm will, no doubt, become an executive dwelling alongside a 'select' development of 'desirable' residences (I'm afraid we are 'that' end of the village!)
The village church was packed - no parking within a mile - and the service (planned by Mike with the vicar) was beautiful and very emotional in a very positive way. I am proud to have known such a great person.
Life goes on though, so I was straight in the car heading down to Roehampton for a late lunch with daughter no. 1 and then onto the grandchildren's school for their 'open Evening' where I was proudly shown a lot of the work they have done.
Overall - a great day!
