A Monmouth back street
We started our day visiting Tintern railway station. Long closed the buildings had been converted into a café which had won many awards and the signal box was an artists studio. On a railway siding there were three renovated train coaches and a walk had been sculptured out of the old hard standing to Brockweir half a mile north and hugging close to the River Wye.
We set off walking up this path, crossing the Wye at Brockweir bridge. The village is a delight, old, immaculately clean and historical it was the highest point on the Wye that deep draught barges could get to from Chepstow so goods were transhipped and traded here before the railways arrived.
Continuing our walk up the Wye for a mile or so we returned to our car and carried on to our final destination, Monmouth.
A lovely old market town it is definitely worth a visit and reserve a day to see it properly.
