Remember your Make Up

Another day in the Dalmally heat. We spent more time cutting through undergrowth to accommodate sight lines than doing actual measurements.
These two bridges are near the bottom of our site; the old and new bridges over the River Lochy close to where it joins the River Orchy. Strangely (to me) the area is called Inverlochy, a name shared with the village we used to live in near Fort William. Until recently I thought the name was unique to Lochaber.
This is quite a rural site and I doubt many people tramp this riverbank. To my surprise a young woman sopped her car nearby and came walking towards us quite purposefully. She was also surprised to meet anyone on her site. She explained she was visiting a remote monitoring station on the river to collect flow data. We told her what we were working at also.
I found he next comments slightly perplexing. She further explained most of her site visits out this way were to quiet locations where she seldom met anyone, except today she had met us, and on the previous site met the water bailiff. Her concern being that having expected a quiet day in her own company, and given the scorching heat, she had left for work without putting on any make up.
While she was conveying her discomfort with some humour I thought it strange that breaching some perceived unwritten rule of social etiquette should be worthy of comment
