Pitta Express

As I was walking along the riverside from Twickenham to Richmond this morning, I spied a squirrel with a large pitta bread in its mouth. He scrambled up one tree but then dropped his breakfast bounty from the top. So, down he came again in search of the plummeting pitta.

Meanwhile, at ground level, a very pretty, sleek black lurcher had homed in on all this activity and came hurtling towards squirrel, pitta bread and me, a mere bystander. It could have got very bloody but, on this occasion, but little Squirrel Nutkin had his wits about him, rapidly escaping up another tree, with rescued pitta bread, far away from Bessie's killer instincts.

You really had to be there, as did David Attenborough's camera crew, but I did the best I could at the time.
