Air Studios, London
After George Martin left EMI in 1965, he created Air Studios, which stands for Associated Independent Recording.
The studios were first in Oxford Street before moving to this building in Hampstead in 1991. It used to be the Lyndhurst Road Congregational Church and was designed by the famous Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse.
Just about anyone you can name has recorded at Air from Van Morrison and Coldplay to Peter Gabriel, Michael Buble and Paul Weller, as well as the soundtracks of many films and video games.
From 1970 to 1989 Air ran studios in Monserrat in the Caribbean, and many famous albums were recorded there too. It was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo and is now a ruin that is open to the public.
