The West Lothian Alps.

There is still a lot of snow about. But did you know that this is related to why mice eat all the time and why elephants have big ears?

There is a very simple scientific measure - surface area to volume ratio - the impact of heat on any body is dependent on this ratio.

So, huge lumps of snow takes ages to melt, mice lose heat so quickly they have to eat all the time to stay warm and elephants are so big they have to create more area ( big ears ) to cool down.

Tell the kids folks... you'll find this everywhere around you...
