Bird's Eye View
Whilst locking the door to leave for London this morning, my neighbour asked me if I was going out. I said, "yes, to London and did she want a ride anywhere?" She then proceeded to give me extremely useful information on closed/congested roads due to accidents and more importantly, a closer and cheaper way to get into London!
So, having taken on board all her advice, we took an alternate route avoiding traffic jams and headed for Surbiton. Not the best sign-posted train station I have to say and it took us a while to find their park and ride, but all sussed out and tomorrow I shall have to thank Brenda for the invaluable info she passed on!
London was heaving but we managed to find our way to where we wanted and jumped on and off relevant buses. We were of course heading towards The Shard and made it there in good time (via Borough Market). I am so glad we decided to do this. It was brilliant and a clear day too with no rain forecast. I took loads of pictures, but this shows the advantage of being so high up to get a bird's eye view better than the others. :) Saw Tower Bridge open for a tall ship to pass through. That was an unexpected treat.
I have to say - I can't believe how accessible The Shard is as a building. Burj Khalifa doesn't have any roads at its base; let alone a major train station.
Think we stayed an hour on the viewing gallery before wending our way back to Waterloo on the 521 bus. London always has something eccentric to offer and today, it was in the form of a very over-sized lounge suite outside Waterloo Station. 3+1+1 plus coffee table and lamp shade. Probably 3D printed! ;) It was upholstered in astro-turf so even more interesting. Late back again, so apologies for not getting to you again today. Big catch up day tomorrow! :)
