Weekend Adventure
This morning we drove to Greymouth, (a 2 hour drive along the West Coast of the South Island), and caught the TranzAlpine Scenic train, that goes from Greymouth to Christchurch. The trip takes you from the West Coast to the East Coast of the South Island, through the most beautiful scenery. Usually at this time of the year there is snow on the ground, but unfortunately not this year. But nevertheless it was still breathtaking. We arrived in Christchurch at 6.30pm, so it was dark for the last half hour of the trip.
The train has an open air carriage where you can go out (into the cold!) and take lots and lots of photo's. There is also a cafe on board.
Tomorrow we do the exact opposite, but this time we go from Christchurch to Greymouth. Even though we are doing the same journey, we will be seeing scenery in a different light, as we will be leaving Christchurch early - at 8.15am.
It's a lovely comfortable, relaxing journey, and one I can highly recommend.
