Military Bridge, Spittal of Glenshee
Another scorching hot day at the Caravan Park.
Very restful, finishing the third book in the Lewis Trilogy. Cool walks along the river and watching some of the Games on TV.
Early evening we drove up to Glenshee, which is one of the ski Centres of Scotland. On the way we stopped at Spittal of Glenshee and saw this beautiful old bridge.
It was constructed as part of the Blairgowrie to Fort George, Inverness Military Road. This route was built by General Caulfeild, and seems to have taken a surprisingly long time to construct, as work is recorded as starting in 1749 and yet was not completed until 1763. The bridge over the Shee Water is about half way, so probably it was constructed in the mid to late 1750s. The design is one made popular by General Wade although clearly it is no longer on the main road to the north.
More great weather forecast for the next couple of days.
