Blencathra

Looking down the Vale of St John towards the magnificent Blencathra or Saddleback. It's a lovely mountain dominating the road from Penrith towards Keswick and West Cumbria. There's one short fine, narrow ridge, especially good in snow.

I was walking this ridge once when I saw a small family of dotterel, bright in summer plumage. The mother bird quietly pushed along the chicks as they scurried into the rocks at the side of the path, some 6 feet away from me. One of those blessed moments...
