Coniston Old Hall
A lovely walk to Coniston from Torver taking in the old railway track and passing Coniston Hall on the west bank of Coniston Water in the Lake District. The house dates from the late 16th century, or possibly earlier and it's built in stone rubble with a slate roof. Part of it is now ruined, part is used as a farmhouse, and another part is used by a Coniston sailing club. The hall is owned by the National Trust, but is not open to the public.
More importantly on the day they sell ice cold drinks and ice cream, most welcome : )
