On holiday : Flying over Kaikoura

I flew from Christchurch to Rotorua this morning, and on the way we crossed over the Kaikoura mountain range (foreground), with Kaikoura township on the peninsula top right of this photo.

In the 1860's my family moved to Kaikoura from Blenheim, they walked, which took them about a month. There were no roads back then, just a dirt track. They are buried in the Kaikoura cemetery, with an amazing view out over the ocean. I was thrilled to see the home of my ancestors from the air.

I am staying the night at Lake Rotoiti.
