Wildlife Kit

This what I use for much of my wildlife photography when I can't use my 400mm f2.8 lens and tripod.
It's a Sigma 150-500mm f5 and is mounted on a modified rifle stock . The cable connects to the Nikon D300 and the camera focusses and fires using the small button on the rear hand grip.
It's relatively slow and not as sharp when compared to the Nikon 400mm f2.8 which is the gold standard but of course it's $8,000 cheaper !! It works really well on bright days but struggles a little bit to focus in low light. It's at its best for birds in flight and moving animals using the rifle grip either prone or standing upright.
NOT to be recommended in New Jersey anywhere near the State Police or during hunting season ..... under NO circumstances can it be taken on public transport or into the local Starbucks .... Also I would not recommend standing in line at the local chippy with it but it could be advantageous at getting served in The Rubaiyat on Byres Road on a Friday night :-)))
