Do aliens eat peanuts?

Laying in the middle of our road a lonely little peanut. Under normal circumstances, you would think that a passer-bye has just dropped it or it has fallen from a car but given that we are they only people around and that on a busy day maybe one car will use the road - I'm beginning to wonder.

Is this the signs of another Close Encounter? Who knows but it's a wee bit scary.
