Glasgow 2014
We were up bright and early so that we had time to pack up the camping gear and head west to Pollok Park to hopefully get a glimpse of the marathon runners.
We ambled along busy verges and had just found a spot when the leading pack came past. It was fortunate timing. The eventual winner, Michael Shelley of Australia is in this bunch but is eclipsed by the athlete nearest to the camera. The pace of these runners –when seen in real life- is quite astonishing when you realise it is being sustained for 26 miles.
Later in the day we attended the athletics meeting at Hamden. We arrived early as advised yet got seated with seconds to spare. Thousands must have missed the start. Bottlenecks in pedestrian traffic hold points caused absolute chaos and there were was considerable discontent. For anyone else going I would suggest arriving three house early, two is leaving it very tight. Girn over.
I have never been to an athletics event. It was a stunning spectacle of top athletes from around the world (The Commonwealth). The headline event was the men’s 5000m final won by Kenya’s Caleb Ndiku. My goodness he was fast and made it look easy such was the grace of his stride. He deserved and clearly appreciated his Hamden Roar. I don't know if it will work but you can see more images here or try here instead
