Chromolocomotion
A break from my normal B&W outlook on life!
I was in London today and did not have time for any photography until I was back at St Pancras Station waiting for my train. As such I had a wander to the front of the train station which I have not done so before and really got a good look at the building. Quite an amazing building!
St Pancras is home to some artwork including a statue of Sir John Betjeman (which I am sure will be a Blip for me at some point in the future!), but they now have a new project running called Terrace Wires (from their web site):
"Developed and inspired by a desire to add the romance back to travel, Terrace Wires is an ambitious and significant sense of commitment to this wonderful station; serving the people who use it day in, day out with something magical.
By inviting world renowned artists to be inspired by St Pancras International, a visitor's day should be punctuated by a little moment of joy. We want customers and commuters to look up - quite literally - in awe at the installation, stirring a desire to capture and share that moment with others.
The Terrace Wires is overseen by an advisory panel who include Edmund De Waal, Evan Davis, Nigel Carrington, Chris Wainright, Richard Cook and Nicola Shaw.
The programme started with Lucy + Jorge Orta’s work, Cloud : Meteoros, which was exhibited between April and October in 2013. David Batchelor is the second artist, who will take the baton from Lucy + Jorge in spring 2014.
The most impressive part of Terrace Wires is the opportunity it presents to artists who work on a large scale and want to ambitious. It is quite unlike any other space in London for this reason. Quite simply, it is extraordinary art, in an extraordinary place."
The current piece is David Batchelor's Chromolocomotion.
