Fratercula arctica
Or Puffin to you and me...
Lots of these cheeky chaps on the cliffs around Sumburgh Head this afternoon.
We spent most of the afternoon on Mousa island with a brilliant RSPB guide, spotting all sorts of wonderful sea birds and visiting the incredible Mousa Broch, 2300 years old but standing tall and with an intact staircase allowing a climb to the top. Hidden amongst the stones of the broch are hundreds of Storm Petrel chicks that only come out at night.
The downside was hearing about how over-fishing and climate change is hitting the sea bird population. Time to change our habits...if we want to have such a rich environment in another 23 years never mind 2300....
