full on yes day
I've been keen to get back on the quines for independence stall - haven't been on it for about a month. we set up at 11 and it was absolutely scorching. even though I had factor 50 on, I could feel myself getting toasted (only two tiny bits burned in the end though). aberdeen was hoaching, and buzzing with events on everywhere. outside markies where we were, there was a protest against the military action in gaza, aberdeen international youth festival dancing, street art, bands, there was the yes aberdeen stall, us, the occasional national collective member and the better together folk were there for a short while too. in suits.
we spoke to loads of folk and gave out so much information - I noticed a change since my last stall stint. people are more engaged with the referendum, more folk are telling us they're voting yes, or leaning that way and they really appreciated the info we gave them and wanted more to take away for undecided pals. a couple of no voters I spoke to we're voting no, not because they didn't think it was best for scotland, they agreed it was - they felt it was unfair to abandon england and leave it in the hands of westminster. hard to argue with that maybe, but I believe with a yes vote, change will be forced upon westminster - and that can only be good. both were english incidentally - is that relevant? I don't know, I know loads of english yes voters.
back home for tea, then off out at night to yestival which was a lovely mix of music, poetry, beat boxing, film and spending the evening with the various ace yes groups of aberdeen. we've met some really great folk this year.
