Scotch Argus
This is a first for me, the Scotch Argus. I spotted it while out for a walk at Redcastle and only managed on shot. So I was lucky to get even this. The Scotch Argus breeds in tall, damp grassland where the caterpillars feed on a variety of grasses. The male can be very active in sunshine, which it was today, but cloudy weather can stop them flying altogether. It flies late in the season, from early July to early September! There you have it!
