Chalky
A beautiful fresh male Chalkhill Blue butterfly. I watched four of them this afternoon flying on our neighbour's land next to the nature reserve, often perching on one of their favourite nectar plants Wild Marjoram, which is in full bloom now. I didn't see a female, which is much browner than this, but will be hoping to over the next few days. It would be wonderful if they flew another four hundred metres to the SE to find the small clumps of their larval food plant, Horseshoe Vetch, that are doing well from the tiny plug-plants I planted out last autumn...but I think it is likely to be another year or two before we see them on the reserve.
