Decomposition

A few years ago I set some of my pupils the challenge of turning a poem into a piece of art.

Two girls in that class (both of whom later went to art college) created this collage based on the Zulfikar Ghose poem 'Decomposition' a poem which questions the ethics of tourists taking photos of the poor and helpless when visiting developing countries; an ethical dilemma I've always struggled with on my travels.

I like the way the girls played with the idea of "decomposition" by composing a collage.

I hung this picture in my classroom in Scotland and now (because I don't have my own classroom) it hangs in my kitchen.
