Arnside Bore

We happened to be doing a walk in just the right spot at just the right time to see the Arnside Bore today.

We'd sat down for a spot of lunch near Blackstone Point and I'd been wondering what the distance rushing noise was. I had remembered that there is a bore tidal wave so realised that this was it as it gradually got closer. Two siren blasts sounded to give a warning.

The tidal range was not at its peak so the bore ended up fizzling out near us as the estuary bulged out where it joined the River Kent coming in. Various birds were put up. There was a distinct boundary between the turbulent sandy/muddy sea water and the freshwater flowing down. None-the-less, interesting to see.

We went on to see several nice butterflies on Arnside Knott
