Bring It On

Today we went to Hampden to see the morning athletics session at the Commonwealth Games.
Athletics has always been something I'll casually watch on the tv, but what a difference seeing it in real life.
Our seats were near the trackside and we had the womens Heptathlon High Jump and Mens Decathlon discus going on right in front of us, as well as the finish line to the left.
The power and strength of the athletes was impressive and it was great to see the human side of them as we had their family and friends sitting near us, as well as seeing them chatting to their coaches nearby.
The Commonwealth Games has also had the para-sports happening alongside the able-bodied and we got to see the T54 1500m heats. The strength they have to get around the track was amazing. At the end of the day though all the athletes need strength, fitness, and the will to carry on, no matter what their physical abilities and I hope that they can continue having such integration in the future.
The Games and Glasgow are fantastic. The city is truly buzzing and it's such a pleasant change to feel people coming to Glasgow to visit and enjoy the events around, including Glasgow Green and the Merchant City that we managed to get to as well today.
It has inspired this couch potato who will be going for another run on Thursday.
