When Cambridge University Library had a new forecourt a couple of years back a "novel" idea to stop cars getting too close to the steps was designed....stacks of books made out of some sort of metal. The four middle stacks have 6 moveable books at the top which can be twisted in different directions. Most people passing by find it hard to resist spinning a few books around.
