Last of the excursions with the Red Cross and our visitors and what an excursion…
But first some history about this train. The railway opened in November 1876 and it became a museum railway in 1974. But before that happened the railway was threatened by shutdown after Word War 2 and in 1966 all passenger transport stopped. An association was formed to save the railway that hadn't already been removed and this year the museum railway celebrated 40 years.
The train makes this lovely sound when it runs and was really nice to travel with! :)
We went with this train for half an hour and then changed to a veteran bus to get to the recreation area by a lake. The sun was shining and the weather was very nice, at first… We made a barbecue and got to taste some delicious Arabic and Palestinian food together with chicken sausages.
In the afternoon it begun to drizzle a bit and by that time many in our company were out on the lake in small boats that you peddle with your feet. When it started to rumble from thunder clouds it was a bit unsettling… when the lightnings started to strike not far from the area I got really worried. Several of my friends were out on the lake. Fortunately they begun to return to shore. Lightnings were closing in on our position and even I felt unsafe standing on the docks waiting for the last boat to get to shore. By then the sky had opened up and it was also raining heavily and all of us were wet to the bones. Well, I actually had a rain jacket on, so half of me were dry… :D We sought shelter in a very small structure, that's used as a protection for wind and rain for a while and then made a dash for it to a large tent…
Everybody were in good spirit despite the rain and thunder and inside the tent we could make a small fire (it had an opening in the ceiling, like a Saami kåta), drink coffee, tea, eat buns and biscuits and have some fun. Thankfully the rain had stopped when we went to take the bus back to the train.
What an adventure!
