Watching the Tendrils

Because my volunteer squash/pumpkin vine, after climbing
the tomato cage the clematis trellis, is heading downward
again, it's tendrils are finding whatever they can cling
to including themselves. I am finding amazing efforts
the tendrils are making. This is new to me so I want
to share.

I am thinking if the vine were following the ground, those
tendrils would bury themselves in the soil????????

I need some help from other gardeners here!
